Vietnamese Agricultural Exports to the U.S. in July 2025: Resilient Growth Amid Trade Challenges

In July 2025, Vietnam’s agriculture, forestry, and fishery (AFF) export sector recorded a robust performance with export value reaching approximately 6.01 billion USD, marking a 13.4% increase compared to the same month in 2024. The United States continues to be Vietnam’s largest agricultural market, accounting for about 21% of total AFF export revenue in the first half of 2025. Export growth to the U.S. surged by nearly 19% in this period, reinforcing the strategic importance of this key market for Vietnam’s agricultural products.

Key Export Commodities and Market Dynamics

Vietnam’s main agricultural exports to the U.S. include coffee, black pepper, fruits and vegetables, and cassava starch. Notably, Vietnam stands as the third-largest coffee supplier and the world’s leading provider of black pepper to the U.S. Additionally, fruit and vegetable exports to the American market soared by 65.5% in the first seven months of 2025, evidencing strong consumer demand and expanding market opportunities.

Despite these positive trends, the sector faces challenges. The introduction of a 10% tariff on certain products, such as cashews, has caused price increases of 35-40% in the U.S. market compared to 2024. This shift has resulted in reduced competitiveness for cashews, with some U.S. consumers opting for alternative nuts. However, these challenges are being offset by growing demand in other product segments and export markets.

Policy Adjustments and Industry Strategies

The early 2025 adjustments to U.S. trade policy underscore the need for Vietnamese exporters to adapt quickly. In response, Vietnam’s government and industry stakeholders have implemented agile strategies focusing on diversifying export destinations, enhancing product quality, and strengthening compliance with U.S. sanitary and phytosanitary requirements. These efforts aim to sustain the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products while mitigating the impact of tariffs and technical barriers.

Outlook and Recommendations

Overall, for the first seven months of 2025, total Vietnamese exports of agriculture, forestry, and fishery products reached nearly 40 billion USD, an increase of 14.7% over the previous year. The U.S. remains a pivotal market, but sustaining this growth will require continued innovation, investment in digital technologies, and stronger adherence to sustainable agricultural practices. Improving infrastructure and supply chain resilience will be key priorities to capitalize on long-term market opportunities, particularly in high-demand sectors such as fruits and vegetables.
